A significant proportion of visitors to your site are doing so using mobile and tablet devices. Making your site responsive means modifying its appearance to adapt and move around based on the device of each person visiting.
If your site site is currently only optimised for desktop machines, a relatively small amount of modification will allow your site to adapt to the two other most common types of device; mobile and tablet.
Website visitors are notoriously impatient. Generally you have about 10 seconds to grab their attention. If they do not quickly find the information they are looking for they will leave for another site.
Whilst a desktop site can be viewed on a mobile, the graphics are larger and the user has to scan around and zoom in to read information which takes valuable additional seconds of their patience. This will increase the risk of them exiting your site. An adaptive site will detect the screen size and serve the user with an optimised version, reducing the size of images and making the textual content a more readable size.
